The Scottish Fairy Book 9781511850230 Books
The Scottish Fairy Book is a book of -gasp- Scottish fairy tales. The tales have been rewritten by the author, so they aren't incredibly historical, but it does make them more coherent and easy to read. Some of the stories were really good and interesting (some were not) and many had unusual takes on more typical fairy tales (there was one that was very similar to Snow White while also being completely different).The language of the stories was good, although the author chose to use some dialect words and spellings. I found that there was a glossary in the back when I finished the story, but those are really awkward on kindles, so it wouldn't have been much help if I'd known.
As for audience there are some strange things in some of the tales--like mild non-specific polyamory, or archaic characterizations of females--so I would not recommend reading it to any children without first reading it through once yourself.
There is a clickable table of contents, and few scanning errors. I believe there was one or two endnotes, which were properly linked, hooray. There were no illustrations. Two of the stories were 'missing' but I think it's because they were both illustrations with text, which were not then scanned in for the kindle edition.

What I enjoyed about this book is that it gave me a broader knowledge of Celtic legends and fairy tales, that I have not heard before. Really enjoyed learning new stuff.
The stories were ones that I had not read before. I was glad to see some that were not well known. The details were soclear that I could easily imagine the sights and sounds.
The author conveys the fairy tales well without attempting to embellish them with any modern interpretation or setting. If you enjoy reading lost tales from mythology of the British Isles, then you will likely enjoy this one too.
This is a sweet book about Scottish fairy tales. Some of them completely unique and classicly Scottish in nature and some retellings/the Scottish version of more popular tales (think Grimm Brothers/Hans Christen Anderson).
