Heaven is rays of sunlight dancing slowly on wheat stalks. It's wind twirling itself around chimes hung from low tree branches, and robust bursts of scent and color, far beyond anything describable with words. Heaven is a flightless crow, a promise of forever tied to a necklace, and hidden love letters tucked away safely inside a tree. Heaven is a fire-haired boy named Rust and his love for Ancel, a boy full of storm clouds. Heaven is all the tiny threads of hope that hold them together.

What a wonderful and moving story about an odd boy named Rust. Why a creative child is called something like Rust is beyond me. But Rust is down to earth, takes in the simple things of life and sees things differently. A boy that unusual could have been crushed growing up . . . But no, his parents were there for him and his mom understood. If only all parents have that kind of patience and ability to listen.

Ancel is the other half of this story. He's beautiful to look at but so different in every other way. He, too, listens and has patience and is willing to look beyond what others think and say.

It's a unique look at growing up, becoming the person you were meant to be, believing in yourself and overcoming what life throws at you. The way the story is written I was happy for Rust to remain in his hometown, a place he loves, a place where family is and so many memories. Because he is so self contained I could picture him being satisfied with his life, single or not. I was happy with how things turned out but would have been happy with another ending, too. A highly recommended read. - Dan's Wife

Just noticed the title is 'fawn' not 'Fawn'. Fawn was the name Ancel called Rust. .. Probably due to some antlers but fawn is also a small deer that is easily spooked, brown eyed and curious. I did wonder about that title.

I shall definitely be reading more of Nash Summers writings! If I could have given this story more than 5 stars I would have done so! There is a depth and feeling here that draws you in to the characters. To know the character Rust is to be a truly fortunate person! Without going into details, I urge you to take the time to read this wonderful story. You will not be disappointed!
Wow... *sigh* That was... Unexpected. Beautiful. Poetic. Ethereal.

I want to carry these feelings with me, to be able to touch them when I need something aching and yearning and tender and healing and oh so beautiful. I think I need a hard copy to carry in my purse... This is definitely one I will read again. And again.

4.5 stars
The consistent reviews piqued my curiosity and convinced me to try this book. I am so glad I did. I could not imagine why so many reviewers called it a beautiful story but said little else. After reading it, I completely understand. There really is no better way to describe it. I tried so many other words but nothing explains it as completely. Rust and Ancel are beautiful. Their love is beautiful. The world they live in is beautiful. Their acceptance of who each person is...again, beautiful. How I felt after reading their story? Beautiful. You don't know me, but I assure you that, for me, is a major accomplishment! Read this book. It isn't very long and it is worth every moment spent with it. It is not a steamy gay romance. It is a beautiful love story about finding and accepting who you are as a person. Love finds a way.
This book could be one of my favorite books that I have read. The book is beautifully written with similies and metaphors that make you picture the characters and their surroundings. This is a story of love and disappointment. Even though the love is gay love, it is a book for everyone. I would have loved to have known Rust when I was young, he was such a beautiful free spirit. And you just want to hug Ancel and tell him everything will work out. Beautiful. I highly recommend this book.
Every now and then, a book comes along that touches my heart and soul, making me feel and want and need and yearn for something I can’t quite define. Fawn is one of those books even though it’s a novella – short on pages but oh so full of everything else. Lyrical, magical, pure, heavy with emotions - it drew me in and held me in its grasp from beginning to end. Rust and Ancel’s story is beautifully written, a tapestry expertly woven with images of nature, of light and dark. The day their eyes first meet, their fate is sealed but the long, bumpy road they travel to get there is a trail of tears, broken promises, and heartbreak. Fawn is a special story - one that touched me deeply. A heart-touching Must Read!
This book! I can't express into words how great this book is.Please read it. I know the summary doesn't really explain it and it certainly doesn't do it any justice, but it is possibly the best book I've read in a very long time. I didn't want it to end. I wanted to just follow Rust and Ancel through all of time. I've re-read it twice already. It's just a beautiful book. Rust is so true to himself and so pure, Ancel is so broken but can see Rust...really see him. I love this book so much that I hope...really hope that I can hear from these two again. Maybe 5-10 years later? I feel like these two characters are real and I want to know what they are up to. Don't get me wrong the book ended perfectly the way it should but it's my selfishness that wants more time with them. Please get this book.
I've only read one other book by Nash Summers, and it was fairly good, so I decided to check out his other work. The first book, "Carte Blanche", had nothing on this one. Dangerously skirting the edge of overflowing with purple prose, "fawn" is full of beautiful descriptions of everything and everyone. I will admit that Rust was an extremely strange child, but he was sweet and hopeful and full of love for everything in the world, but most of all for Ancel. My heart broke a tiny bit for every bit of heart break contained in the story, but I remained hopeful until the very end. The only thing I would've changed were the transitions/gaps in time/segues and the fact that the ending was not HEA, not even HFN, but more like the rest of the book keep your fingers crossed.
